Well it is definately about time to update my blog!
It has been a busy year and I have completed the final year of the MSc so I am now moving on to my thesis which will cover the theme of compassion. I will be putting up further details here and looking for participants to take part in my study very shortly.
In the meantime, I would like to tell you about a few organisations that I have worked with ver the last few months, in particular Anxiety UK. Do have a look at the AUK website- this charity is the best resource I know for sufferers of anxiety. I am now on the board of trustees and hope to devote more time to this very special charity. Membership is very reasonable and offers a great deal to members with therapy at greatly reduced rates, a telephone service, and much more online. www.anxietyuk.org.uk.
I have also run a couple of workshops at The British Tinnitus Associationweekend retreat in April. The weekend was well attended and offered some wonderful workshops. It is hoped that the retreat will run again next year so if you suffer from Tinnitus do have a look at the BTA website for nformation, support and details of future events.
www.tinnitus.org.uk.
Blythe House hospiceare running a number of events throughout the year for practitioners and the general public so do have a look out for these- which will include mindfulness retreats. I continue to have the privilage of running wellbeing workshops at the hospice and know the worthwhile work that takes place here and all that this very special place has to offer, so do come along if you can. www.blythehousehospice.co.uk.
Yoga and pregnancy classes
Last Saturday I had the wonderful privilage of being invited to talk to a group of ladies at their pregnancy yoga class in Macclesfield. I would like to recommend this class highly. The class, run by Karina Randall is respectful and very beneficial. Karina is extremely well qualified and a dedicated teacher. There are women's classes also as well as pregnancy yoga classes. For further information you can visit Karina's website www.yogasisters.co.uk
Finally, for my fellow therapists/colleagues. The fifth annual Counselling and spirituality conference is taking place on Saturday June 25 the Quaker meeting house in Disley. This day enables you to explore the links between spirituality and counselling and brings together people working in a variety of ways and with a variety of faith, and non-faith backgrounds. The conference cost for the full day is £55 and includes lunch and a certificate of attendance for continuing professional development. For more information and to book a place you can contact Sarah Talbot at

Radio Derby interview 5.1.2011
I was interviewed today January 5 by Ian Sky on Radio Derby, who took a refreshing perspective and look at an age old problem. The discussion was around how our partners support us when we want to lose weight, and about the ‘gentle nudges and playful comments’ than can impact much more deeply than we realise.
In a recent survey (reported in the Daily Mail on 301210) it was reported that “42% of men would be less attracted to their girlfriend if she gained half a stone” but happily, “only 5% of men said they’d leave the relationship”
We are not two dimensional beings- mere visual objects- we are a complex mix of emotions, body, mind, feelings, and capable of so much that is more than our physical body alone- the vessel that carries our very being, and yes the very special vessel that is important to be nurtured, cared for, and well maintained to enable us to have a quality life, living it to the full!
Regarding weight management- I believe it is a matter of balance
It should not be about being more attractive, feeling better about ourselves because we look better.
It is a question of balance-yes it is important to maintain a healthy weight but this should not be confused with “how we look is who we are” and to be judged- most importantly, it is about what we do with the lives that we have and the vessel- our body that supports that life. Think about all that we do for each other, our intellect, humour, love, compassion, sharing, companionship- we are not robots or Stepford wives – and it is important that from an early age we lower the unrealistic expectations we have about ourselves. The body’s we have at 40 will not be the same shape and weight as the bodies we had in our teens, nor should they. Our body develops and adapts to the life we lead as we age, to support the ongoing changes. |

"Life is neither fair nor unfair, kind nor cruel. It is simply the energy that allows us to exist. It makes no judgements but whenever we stop for a moment, forget all we have become so caught up in and just recognise what a miracle our very existence is, life somehow seems to take note of this. If we can summon a little gratitude, it becomes even happier. Or rather, we do". Jonathon Cainer.24.4.2010
